Necromancer no longer a threat thanks to Heyton

STORMREACH - Success has been reported in the Korthos coastal community infested by the walking dead. In much anticipated display of cooperation between the city of Stormreach and Korthos, a taskforce of adventurers and the Wizard Heyton has successfully rid the town of the undead infestation.

The town had recently been under siege by a rogue Necromancer who was robbing the graves of the town, attempting to create his own undead army. There has been no reason to believe that the Necromancer was working with any other groups; he was believed to be acting alone.

The heroes, dubbed by the citizens of Korthos as their saviors, have been quoted as saying they wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this difficult task, without the support of the town’s people of Korthos, and especially the support and resources provided by the two towns.

Our newest group of heroes didn’t have time to celebrate their victory, however, as they were whisked off for yet another set of urgent missions.

In these troubled times, it’s good to see that there are still leaders of powerful communities that are willing put aside their differences and band together to help rid Eberron of the evil that plagues it. Viggie Storr himself has been officially quoted as saying “If you happen across this band of heroes, let them know how much you appreciate what they are doing for you and the rest of humanity. They are true heroes indeed.”

Arch Bishop Velleunal of The Silver Flame, has expressed his gratitude to the heroes for eliminating the threat. He was quoted as saying “It is the duty of every believer of the Silver Flame to abolish evil whenever the opportunity presents itself, and that’s exactly what Heyton has done.”

Heyton was not available to answer question or for comments on the ordeal. The Ravenguard Press, however, was able to speak with one high ranking member of the group responsible for eliminating the Necromancer threat. Mallen Drivin, formerly of Sharn took up arms against the horde of undead. “The operation was an enormous success, due in no small part by the powerful magic that Heyton possesses.” He went on to say, “The man possesses more power than one man ought to possess – not that I’m complaining or anything; he did rid us of the threat. But… there was something about him during the final moments of the fight that were a bit disturbing. I can’t put my finger on it, exactly, but there seemed to be a moment where I thought he was going to turn his magic on the living instead.”

The oddball Wizard has been responsible for saving the Village on more than one occasion; most recently, he led a successful mission to rid the island of the clutches of an evil White Dragon. As we found out then, that while we believed the Dragon was acting on it’s own, there may be other evil forces controlling, and often manipulating things to seem different from actual truth. Things aren’t always what they seem; perhaps the man we know and adore has some hidden secrets. For all out sakes, I hope Mallen is not as perceptive as he thinks.

For now, the story seems to have come to a close. Rest assured, the Ravenguard Press will be keeping an eye on things, and will get to the story, if one exists, that is.

Scholars Reported Missing – Reward Offered

STORMREACH - Graendithas Alerteyes & Elmorn Graveltoes, visiting scholars from Korranberg, were reported missing yesterday after not appearing for an important event at the Lordsmarch Plaza.

Alerteyes and Graveltoes were investigating the authenticity of two ancient scrolls recently recovered from  the Ruins of Threnal. They were last seen touring the Hall of the Mark a day earlier.

The scholars are reputed experts in various arcane matters dealing with ancient artifacts. The recently recovered scrolls were said to hold clues of the locations of two of the four powerful weapons used by the giants of Xen ‘Drik in the fight against the quori. The four weapons, known collectively as the Destiny Arms, have been long lost, and until recently, forgotten.

University officials have stated that both scrolls are secured in the vaults of the Lordsmarch Bank, where they will stay until the scholars are found.

If anyone has seen these Scholars, there has been a reward of 10,000 pieces of Platinum for information leading to their safe return.

Killer hits the streets of Stormreach

STORMREACH - Caronna Fletcher, a renowned seamstress in the section of Stormreach known as the Harbor, was found savagely murdered this morning. One of her frequent patrons discovered her body shortly after dawn. “I always come early to beat the crowds”, they said. The patron, who chooses to remain anonymous, has been going to Caronna’s Colorful Creations for years. “She has some of the best made clothing in all of Stormreach."

C3, as the shop is affectionately called by many residents, has been proudly serving the residents of Stormreach for the past 30 years. Caronna Fletcher, daughter to Veronnda Fletcher took up the trade shortly after her mothers passing ten years ago.

Details of the grisly  murder are being withheld at this time. The Stormreach Guard has been quoted as saying “If anyone has information regarding the murder of Caronna Fletcher, they are strongly encouraged to come forward”

Ships from Talenta Plains Quarantined

Breaking news… Cargo ships have been spotted a mile outside the main docks in the Harbor; their entry seems to be blocked by Harbor patrol vessels that have taken up a defensive posture. Cardle Sandytoes, a local merchant facilitator, was seen arguing with the Harbor Master; it cannot be confirmed, but reports from witnesses say the Harbor Master used the word quarantine several times during the heated discussion.

Cardle Sandytoes, a Merchant Facilitator recently arriving from The Talenta Plains, is known to deal in exotic cargo; several days ago, he arrived with three officials from the Gistanding Tribe, known for breeding strange creatures used by the various Halfling tribes in the Talenta Plains. Since their arrival, no one has seen or heard from them, not until this morning when the harbor was put on alert.

Cardle was approached shortly after being seen discussing matters with harbor officials, he declined to comment on what the commotion was about. He only stated how unfair the Harbor Master was being, and  his business deal was in jeopardy. The Harbor Master would not comment to the specific nature of the conversation, only that dealing with these Halflings was a dire mistake.

Several fishing vessels have been diverted from their normal routes to keep them at a distance from the three cargo vessels. One fisherman, by the name of Hargle Fatbottom, reported hearing strange “mewing” sounds coming from one of the ships. “it was like a cross between a house cat and a cow; sort of a meooooroar sound.” The fisherman went on to say “There is no freaking way I’m going out there again, not until whatever is in those ships is taken back to wherever in Khyber it came from!”

As the story develops and more information is uncovered, the Ravenguard Press will let our readers know what’s behind the secret of the quarantined ships. If there is danger afloat in those boats, the citizens of Stormreach should know about it, and be assured they are in no danger.

Necromancer Threatens Korthos

According to eye witnesses, a Necromancer, by the name of Margenthou Andrioch, known by locals as “The Dead Body Man”, has threatened to unleash terrible strife on a coastal community on the southern tip of Korthos island. This threat came immediately following a decision by town leaders and local church officials, to institute a town cremation policy.

Korthos has been home to several hundred fishermen, boat builders, and other marine tradesman for the past several hundred years.

Town’s people can’t recall exactly when Andrioch started appearing in the local cemetery. “He seemed to appear out of no where”, said Viggie Storr, The Mayor of Korthos, “We Once mistook him for a mourner.” Shaking his head in disbelief, “We came to understand mourning was the furthest thing from his mind”

One villager, who wishes to remain anonymous, recounted a frightening visit from his recently deceased wife. “I was on my way back from the docs, when my heart almost stopped beating; what I saw was horrifying. My dear Elaneire, who had recently died while giving birth to our son, was staggering down the path towards the docs. I couldn’t believe my eyes; I thought I was going crazy from grief.” The grief stricken man gathered himself, and then continued. “I ran up to embrace her, thinking that the gods had listened to my prayers and returned my beloved wife to the land of the living. What happened next, I will never forget… As I reached forward to embrace her, I was overcome by the vilest smell I had ever known; the rot and decay of human flesh. The abomination that was once my Elaneire, paid no attention to me, but continued down the path; I stared in horror as she disappeared around the bend.”

“To date”, said Mr. Storr, Mayor of Korthos “Over twenty of the walking dead have been reported seen in and around the outskirts of the cemetery. We’ve asked Heyton for assistance; we’ve been assured that help is on its way. The town’s people have faith the Wizard will send aid, but have doubts that it will arrive in time. If their fears hold true, then all may be lost”

Although many of the town’s people are horror stricken over the recent events, they refuse to leave the area. “I would rather die than leave my home”, said one local woman, “This land has been in my family for hundreds of years. Heyton will save us, you’ll see”

Not all citizens are as confident in the oddball wizard to deliver them from this evil. “Why hasn’t help arrived yet?” asked one man, “It’s been over a month since we’ve been told help is on the way”.

Vital Shipment Lost By The Twelve

In an urgent announcement yesterday, an official from Stormreach has reported a shipment of spell components stolen. The shipment, which was being transported from a recent expedition in the Demon Wastes, to The Wizard’s Conclave in The Twelve, is thought to have been stolen by a ruthless band of raiders known as Demons Mercy.

The components, the result of a year long expedition, are reported to contain priceless and dangerous materials used in creating powerful magic. Designed to protect large settlements against demonic invasion and possession, the shipment was considered very valuable.

Yohnathan Goldveign, a longtime supporter of the Ravenguard Press, was chosen to lead a counsel of Mages to further assess the seriousness of the matter, and to come up with a plan to retrieve the stolen materials.

The Arch Wizard and Historian from The Twelve, was part of an unusual collaboration between the two institutions to research a new safeguard against demonic possession. “No one can fathom the horrors the expedition had to endure in order to collect these components”, Goldveign told Ravenguard reporters in a closed press conference.

He further commented, “If these materials fall into the wrong hands, the devastation will be unfathomable.” When questioned about the nature of the components, the Arch Wizard would only say, “To protect against demonic possession, one would need the essence of what is to be protected against.”

“It’s amazing to me that the Blademarks weren’t even considered for this mission.” said Arioch Devenbrak, a well known scholar who was openly critical of The twelve for its hasty selection of mercenaries to safeguard the shipment to it’s conclave. “With something as important as this, there should be no expense spared, and no danger left unconsidered.” He also said “Traveling by land in an area where marauders are known to patrol is simply irresponsible.”

Several mercenary groups have stepped forward to volunteer their services to the Mages Counsel. Among the mercenary groups is the famous Demon Slayers of Vinux, who made a name for themselves in recent years as Demon Hunters. This band of six mercenaries have reportedly hunted and destroyed some of the most notorious demon lords of the wastes. They were also originally contracted by The Twelve to attain some of the more “difficult to collect” components.

These events mark the 2nd anniversary of the bone chilling chronicles sent by Havenblat Rudikgns of the horrific atrocities committed by the Demons Mercy. Rudikgns began sending reports from the Demon Wastes detailing the horrific accounts of murder and mass demonic possession, after being allowed to observe, by the leader of the raiders himself.

The Twelve has released some of the horrific details of his travels, but has not yet released the entire report of what they referred to as “Havenblat’s horrors.”

Officials of The Twelve have agreed to provide the Chronicle exclusive rights to some of Havenblat’s writings as well as coverage of the ongoing investigation. No further details are being released at this time so as not to damage the current investigation.
